My Journey with Wet AMD--a new chapter

by Yvonne
(Birmingham, AL)

This morning I saw my retinal specialist after skipping a shot of Avastin in my left eye, the one with wet macular degeneration. I had gone 18 weeks without a shot. After seeing the scan, he told me he would "check me" every two months from now on. He went on to say only 14% of people with wet macular degeneration had this experience.

I was diagnosed April 2014.

Hooray is all I can say!!!

My mom, 88, has been getting shots for over 6 years for wet AMD. They are usually 3 months apart. On a check up about 2 months ago her retina specialist said she did not need a shot and I was shocked. He had said all along that she would probably need shots the rest of her life. We went for another check up 8 weeks later and the same thing happened . I was amazed as I had never heard that the condition could just stop being a problem. She has decreased vision but we are excited that she may not need the shots. So I guess the moral of the story is don't give up hope!!! It can happen.
