Four years ago I was using my computer and the words got wavy. I just figured the computer was getting ready to break, so I thought nothing of it.
The next day, I was driving into town and all the lines were wavy. As soon as I got home, I called an eye dr in town and managed to get an appointment that day. He informed me that I had wet macular degeneration in my left eye and intermediate dry amd in my right eye.
I had been going to an eye dr in a big box store and he never dilated my eyes, so the new eye doctor had no idea how long I have had age related macular degeneration (AMD).
The new eye dr immediately made an appointment for me to see a retina specialist. 7 days later I saw the specialist, and by then I had lost all sight in my left eye. I was given a shot of Avastin in my left and and was scheduled for a follow up visit, for anther shot in one month.
By the time I got home I could see again out of my left eye. It has been 4 years now since I was diagnosed and am up to 14 weeks between shots of Avastin. I see the specialist again next month and if all is good he will stop the shots, until I need them again.
So much for saving a few dollars by going to an eye dr at a big box store.
