My initial experiences

by Vasumathi

When I was on a trip abroad, I walked quite fast as usual. But I was shocked when I tripped over such an obvious curb and fell down. I also observed that the last step of the stairs would be out of my gauge and I almost ran one or two steps due to inertia. I was losing the depth perception.

The next thing was very poor vision in dim light. Leave alone the unevenness of the road it was hard for me to see the faces of people.
Five years on, my amd is in advanced stage in the right eye and intermediate stage. In the left eye. I go out with assistance, go for a short walk independently only in a familiar place on a level ground, do cooking and other small household jobs apart from reading and writing with difficulty.
