I have just been diagnosed with the dry type of macular degeneration, both eyes. I am very scared. My optometrist told me very little.
At my pushing he said he could make me another appointment with him for further tests and to sit down and talk about it. But I am wondering if I need to see an ophthalmologist or a retinal expert.
The retinal experts in town do not take my insurance so I don't know what to do. I am 61, female. I know of no one in my family that has this except my mother-in-law and of course she's not blood related.
Her situation has been a nightmare so that's all I have to go on. Thanks for any input. Scared!
