Money Management Made Easier

Hello

Money Management Made Easier

In a recent conversation I had with a friend, she told me about her 90 year old mother who has macular degeneration. Wanting to stay as independent as possible, the mother was unwilling to relinquish control of her finances to anyone else.

This determined elderly lady was fully capable of writing her own checks, balancing her checkbook and keeping up with her bills, but found it difficult to see and write clearly because of her central vision losses. My friend asked me about some aids that might help her mother manage her money on her own.

I assured her that there were lots of aids available that could help keep her mother independent - such as large number checks, check writing guides, and large number calculators.

Free Bill Reader

And for those who like to manage their money by using cash when they go shopping, a bill reader will help them identify a $1 bill from a $10 bill. As of January 2015 a free currency reader has been made available by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) to all U.S. citizens, or persons legally residing in the U.S. who are blind or visually impaired.
