Macular Degeneration Glasses for TV Viewing
by Danka
(United States)
Dear Leslie,
I was looking into getting eye wear/binoculars for an 86 year old friend of mine who has dry macular degeneration.
The quality of her life has gone downhill, as she can no longer enjoy watching TV.
I wanted to get her a Birthday gift (2/17), so that she could at least enjoy watching TV again.
I don't mind spending up to $100 (give or take a tad), not in the '000s.
What would you recommend in eye wear for this purpose?

Hi Danka,
You have the right idea in finding a gift for your friend by identifying something she would like to be able to do and then providing a low vision aid to help her.
If she would like to watch TV, here are some suggestions.
1. First tell her to move her chair so that she is close to the TV screen and not far away
2. TV Magnifier from Amazon depending on the size of her TV

3. TV Magnifying Glasses

Could you please let me know if the TV magnifier screen is available in South Africa?
I live in Johannesburg.
I do have Macula Degeneration in both eyes. Do you think this would help me.
Thank you

It is hard to know how well a vision aid will help each person. Normally, you'd like to know the return policy. Since you live in South Africa, I am not sure what the shipping charges would be to return it if it did not work out for you. However, MaxiAids will ship internationally. To learn more click here:
