Talking clocks or low vision clocks are useful visual aids for those with macular degeneration - instead of seeing the time you can hear the time.

Low Vision Clocks

Clocks that speak the time of day can reduce some of the frustration of reading numbers for someone with macular degeneration. Instead of struggling to see numbers, just press a button and you can hear a voice stating the time of day. Some clocks also provide today's date or temperature as well.

There are some voice activated clocks meaning that they will respond to voice commands such as setting the alarm or turning off the alarm.

The voice activated clocks allow one to set the time or an alarm by speaking a command or you can ask about the time and a voice will provide you with the time of day. No pressing any buttons. With a volume control button the volume can be adjusted.

The low vision clocks that used voice activated commands had the worst reviews. Many users had difficulty setting the date and alarm. Or even with the alarm set, it would go off at odd hours. It seems they still need some refining and improvement.

If you are looking for a simple to use low vision clock find one that has large bold numbers or where you press a button and the time of day is spoken.
