Spectrum Fish Oil
Spectrum fish oil is a well respected source for omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The founder, Jethren Phillips, started Spectrum over twenty years ago with the purpose of making healthy oils available to the public. Some of the highest concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids are found in the retina.
Fish Oil Tablets
The researchers of "Dietary Omega-3 Fatty Acid and Fish Intake in the Primary Prevention of Age-Related Macular Degeneration: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis" found that
high dietary intake of fish oils was associated with a 38% reduction in the risk of late macular degeneration. Furthermore, people who ate fish twice weekly not only reduced their risk of late AMD, but also early AMD (soft drusen or retinal pigmentary changes). Spectrum fish oil tablets are sourced from 1) smaller, more sustainable fish (anchovies, mackerel and sardines) which are 2) wild-caught, non-threatened, plankton-feeding fish that are low on the food chain. 3) principally from Pacific water and sometimes from African oceans. Vitamin E is used in most fish oil tablets to preserve freshness. However, natural, non-genetically modified vitamin E is much better for you than a synthetic or genetically modified vitamin E.
Fish Oil Mercury
Spectrum fish oil tablets are third party tested for: √ Heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, mercury; √ Toxins such as dioxins, PCBs, pesticides; and √ Metal elements such as aluminum, trace nickel, trace copper, iron and magnesium. Spectrum uses third party labs to independently test each lot of their fish oil. All contaminants test at below detectable limits based on standards established by the Council for Responsible Nutrition, World Health Organization, and other advisory agencies.
How Much Fish Oil?
According to the American Heart Association, omega 3 fish oil should contain the maximum amount of EPA and DHA fats. The Recommended Daily Intake recommended by the American Heart Association is:1) Patients without documented coronary heart disease (CHD) Eat a variety of (preferably fatty) fish at least twice a week. Include oils and foods rich in alpha-linolenic acid (flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts). 2) Patients with documented coronary heart disease Consume about 1 g (1,000 mg) of EPA+DHA per day, preferably from fatty fish. EPA+DHA in capsule form could be considered in consultation with the physician. 3) Patients who need to lower triglycerides Consume 2 grams (2,000 mg) to 4 grams (4,000 mg) of EPA+DHA per day provided as capsules under a physician’s care. Patients taking more than 3 grams (3,000 mg) of omega-3 fatty acids from capsules should do so only under a physician’s care. High intakes could cause excessive bleeding in some people.
Fish Oil Tablets - 250 Count
The most economical way to purchase fish oil tablets is to get the larger bottles. Most Americans need to use fish oil supplements to get the needed omega-3 fatty acids. We purchase several bottles at a time to save on shipping. Store your bottles in the refrigerator to help maintain freshness. Spectrum Essentials Fish Oil 1000mg can be purchased at local health food stores, but Amazon offers some of the best prices.
