Full Page Magnifier

Do you have a 10X power 8"x10" sheet?
I have two friends with macular degeneration and they have difficulty seeing our church hymn books to sing on Sundays or at our Bible study class.
One has a hand-held magnifier with a light, but it is hard for her to find which line we are on when she has to reposition onto the next line.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Lynn,
The way magnifiers work is that the larger the size of the magnifier, the less powerful it is. So most full page magnifiers or magnifying sheets only magnify about 2X.
Right now the lighted hand held magnifier is her best option.

Hi Leslie,
In regards to your newsletter on Page Magnifiers - Turn Every Book, Magazine and Newspaper into Large Print, do you have a contact for the suppliers in South Africa?

Hi Nicolas,
Thanks for your e-mail. I checked with FirstStreetonLine.com and they do not ship their full page magnifiers outside of the United States and Canada.
I did find another one from Amazon that has some great reviews and they do ship internationally.
Here is a link for you to see it:

Reading Magnifier/Large Print Checks

I am a caregiver to someone who has macular degeneration. She still enjoys reading and TV.
What type of device or magnifier do you recommend that I could get for her to read with and do her check book?
Thanks,
Judy

Hi Judy,
My father-in-law who has wet macular degeneration really likes his lighted full page magnifier for reading.
Your friend can request large print checks from her bank. If they aren't available be sure to have her order plain checks with no design or pattern in the background.
Select black print to provide her with the best contrast.
There are also large print check registers and check writing guides to help those with macular degeneration.

There are actually several types of reading magnifiers and you may have to try different ones to see what works best for you. But the best reading magnifier is one that also provides light and is hands free.
First Street has one of the best full page magnifiers that also provides light - so you can read hands free. To check it out click here:

Reading a newspaper is more of a challenge just because of the size of the paper. Some people like reading the newspaper at a desk or table using a dome magnifier.
Electronic book readers provide you with another option for reading a newspaper. You would need to buy a wirless reading device, like the Kindle, and then subscribe to your favorite newspaper. Your newspaper is automatically downloaded onto the wireless reading device (no need for a computer) every day. You can then magnify the font to a size that is readable for you.
