Myopic Macular Degeneration

Do you have any advice/information for those of us who have been diagnosed with myopic macular degeneration? I am looking for information on clinical trials and posterior scleral buckling as treatments. Thanks!
Answer
Hi Ann,
I found one clinical trial that has been completed for degeneratiive myopia (not associated with age related macular degeneration). It was sponsored by Johns Hopkins and the name of it was:
Bevicizumab (Avastin) Infusion for Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV) Not Associated With Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Here is a link to Pub Med where the results and conclusions are published:
Intravenous bevacizumab causes regression of choroidal neovascularization secondary to diseases other than age-related macular degeneration.
Leslie Degner, RN, BSN
P.S. I will look to see what other studies have been done for Myopic Degeneration and will add to this post when I find them.

Myopic Macular Degneration: Avastin vs Lucentis
by Susan
(St. Louis, MO, USA)
I was wondering if there are any other readers out there with either myopic macular degeneration or AMD that have been treated with both drugs and did they see any permanent improvement?
I am a 50 year old female with myopic degeneration. In one eye, in a 15 month period I have had 7 injections with Avastin and 5 injections with Lucentis.
I initially had considerable improvement after 3 injections with Avastin(6 lines) but lost all vision gained after a 6 week interval and after 4 more injections with Avastin, had no improvement.
My doctor switched to Lucentis and after 2 injections gained 2 to 3 lines, but lost it again. After my 4th injection of Lucentis, I gained 2 more lines and I am still seeing improvement with brightness and peripheral vision. I wondered if anyone else has experienced similar results.
