Microcurrent Stimulation - Aunt with Dry Macular Degeneration
by Peggy
(United States)
My Aunt has dry macular degeneration in one eye and is totally blind in the other.
This microcurrent machine is recommended to aid in cellular regeneration.
Do you think it might help her?
REPLY
Hi Peggy,
The Macular Degeneration Foundation's two-year preliminary Microcurrent Stimulation trial involving 120 patients resulted in an average of:
* 68% improvement over pre-treatment vision for patients with the dry macular degeneration.
* 58% improvement over pre-treatment vision for those with the wet form of macular degeneration.
* Among certain subsets of patients with dry disease the results were even more dramatic, with a third gaining 100 percent or more improvement and a sixth gaining 150 percent or more improvement.

The data presented here has not been reviewed by the FDA, nor has it been peer reviewed. The microcurrent devices used are approved by the FDA for the treatment of pain, but they have not been approved for other uses. The use of a device for an off-label use by a physician is legal. The use of microcurrent stimulation discussed here is only one part of a comprehensive program for supporting visual health, and should not replace any treatment prescribed by your physician.
I would contact Dr. Grossman through e-mail or a phone call to discuss his recommendations for your aunt.

Macular Degeneration and MicroCurrent Stimulation

(United States)
The information on your website has been an inspiration and source of hope.
I am considering purchasing an MSC machine. And I am uncertain what brand names are available, where they're made and selection criteria.
My first knowledge of MCS was Edward C. Kondrot's website. Is the ESC machine he recommends the same that Dr. Marc Grossman recommends?
Are there others I should be considering? What is your recommendation?
I greatly appreciate any help you can give me

Macular Degeneration and Microstimulation
by Dr. Raman Kapur
(India)
Hope this email of mine finds you in good health. Kindly let me know if ARMD is treatable with micro stimulation? Do you have any training centre also? Do you have any equipment available for micro stimulation?
REPLY
Hello Dr. Kapur,
Microcurrent stimulation (MCS) is a form of electrical acupuncture.
Some alternative eye professionals and acupuncturists use this as a macular degeneration treatment.
It involves the administration of very precise amounts of tightly controlled electrical current through electrodes applied to the skin at specific areas around the eye. To learn more about this therapy and about Dr. Grossman a licensed optometrist and acupuncturist visit:

Macular Degeneration - Microcurrent Stimulation
by Mamie
(Alabama)
I was born with macular degeneration. I have had many kinds of sugeries on my eyes. I went blind in my left eye when I was thirteen but my vison is 20/200 in the right eye.
My question is there a tens unit for macular degeneration?
REPLY
Hi Mamie,
For the sake of other readers TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator. It is also called microcurrent stimulation (MCS) and is a form of electrical acupuncture.
Some alternative eye professionals and acupuncturists use this as a macular degeneration treatment.
It involves the administration of very precise amounts of tightly controlled electrical current through electrodes applied to the skin at specific areas around the eye.
A small battery-operated device delivers low-intensity electricity to points around the eyes. This stimulation is thought to increase the blood flow to the eyes.

Natural Treatment for Macular Degeneration
by Jean
(United States)
Hello,
I have been researching ARMD treatments for three family members, trying to find some natural solutions to the progression of the disease.
They have been taking eye care vitamins prescribed by their doctors for some time - adding blueberries and kale to their diets, etc. but so far, the disease just continues to progress.
I have looked on the web for any natural based treatments out there other than diet and supplements. I have found acupuncture but alas, there does not seem to be any research backing up treatment for ARMD.
Have you researched this any more than I?
Do you also consider other natural possibilities in your quest?
Thank you for your kind response. I appreciate your website.
REPly
Dear Researcher,
Your question is very timely and I agree there needs to be more research on the effects of microcurrent and other alternative modalities on macular degeneration.
I have enclosed some exciting information on a research project that I will be starting next year at the University of Rome in Italy.
I have also attach a list of links to articles and research that support the use of microcurrent, light therapy, hyperbaric oxygen and oxidative therapies in treating macular degeneration.
The bottom line is good research is helpful but what happens in the trenches when you are treating patients is what matters. In my clinical experience of over 15 years, microcurrent therapy does improve the vision of over 90% of patients treated.
Dr. Edward Kondrot
www.HealingTheEye.com
Dr. Kondrot is to participate in a Microcurrent Research Project at Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Rome. He met with Prof. Mateo Russo and Marcella Nebbiosa to finalize plans to research the effects of microcurrent on an animal model of macular degeneration. He will have access to the University of Rome's research facilities for this exciting project which will begin in March 2012. Professor Russo has a very interesting theory on how microcurrent works to restore vision.
