Dry AMD - New York
(Old Bridge, NewJersey)
I am 64 years old living the New Jersey and have Dry AMD which is now atrophy in my right eye.
I also have AMD in my left eye but it is stable for now. I would like to know if I qualify for any clinical trials in the New Jersey area?

Thanks for your email. The closest dry macular degeneration study is going to be in New York at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
The stated purpose is:
"The purpose of the project is to investigate in eyes with dry AMD, the efficacy and safety as preventive therapy of the immunomodulatory substance named copaxone which had been proven as safe and effective agent for a neurodegenerative disease, in arresting the progression as well as the conversion of dry AMD to wet AMD."

Dry Macular Degeneration - New York
I have dry macular degeneration. I am 88 yrs. old but feel much younger and have been taking antioxidants as prescribed by my ophthalmologist for a number of years in an effort to slow its progression.
I hope to live much longer and SEE my great-grandchildren to adulthood. I reside in Hicksville, NY, USA.
I would very much like to participate in any phase 2 trials both for personal reasons (hoping to get the real thing) and for the good of humanity.
Thank you for any opportunity to participate. Martin

Hi Martin,
I hope you live to SEE your great-grandchildren to adulthood too!
The number of dry macular degeneration studies are still few and far between. As of this writing there are only 16 studies that are currently recruiting new participants and they are in California, Florida, Texas, Canada, Israel and Switzerland.
There is one Phase I study (I know you were looking for a Phase II study) sponsored by The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary called Copaxone in Age Related Macular Degeneration.
If you want to read about this study click here and go to the last study listed on the page:

Thank you Pat for your e-mail. Your mom most likely just has dry age related macular degeneration. Juvenile macular degeneration occurs in children, teens and young adults.
