Macular Degeneration and Exercise
by Dalia
Just wanted to ask if exercising like jogging, walking, gym etc might worsen my AMD condition. A doctor of a friend of mine, who also has AMD, told her to avoid exercising as it puts pressure on the eye and could worsen the situation. Thanks.
Answer In my opinion, exercise is not contraindicated for any eye disease; especially macular degeneration.
Exercise does not put pressure on the eye and I can't foresee any reason why it would be "bad."

Aspirin and Macular Degeneration
by Charles
I have been taking a baby aspirin a day as recommended by my doctor. I have noticed that the central four squares of my Amsler Grid were starting to become fuzzy.
I stopped taking the aspirins several days ago and now the central squares of my Amsler chart have become more normal like.

Impact on Macular Degeneration During Stressful Times
by Ronnie
(NJ)
Can going through a stressful time in your life cause your macular degeneration to get worse? I'm referring to emotional stress (such as dealing with the illness of a loved one) as well as physical and emotional stress (dealing with your own illness that's unrelated to your AMD).
If so, after the stress is no longer there, can your vision improve?
REPLY
Dear Ronnie,
The longer I practice alternative medicine the more I am convinced of the emotional role in all diseases. Conditions of stress put us into the sympathetic state or the state of fight or flight.
An example of the fight or flight is when a grizzly bear is chasing you in the woods. You are running for your life and certain physiological changes take place; the pupils dilate, blood pressure and heart rate increases, digestive processes slow and the bodies ability to heal also slows.
The bottom line is that the body will not heal when we are in a stress state. We must reduce stress to reduce disease and to enable our body to heal itself!
The answer to your question is yes! Stress can cause your macular degeneration to get worse. You need to reduce your stress to give your body the ability to heal itself. If you reduce your stress you will find your vision getting better!
To your good health and clear vision,
Dr. Kondrot
