Low Vision CCTV

Hi Leslie,

I'm contacting you regarding my father. He has very low vision due to advanced wet macular degeneration.

He is a retired architect/mathematician and is still doing calculations and he writes articles. Unfortunately, he can't see his scientific calculator well anymore. We looked around for a scientific calculator with illumination and large keys/letters, but that doesn't seem to exist.

A CCTV magnifier might be the solution.
He is 86 years old.

As he is very passionate about his mathematical activities, such an improvement will make his life much easier. He is frustrated that he can not use his scientific calculator well anymore. You might be able to find the right item for him.

Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Nilufer

Hello Nilufer,

Thank you for your question and for your desire to help your father. A low vision CCTV may be the best option for him as you suggested.

Because these are very expensive magnifiers, my suggestion is to ask your father's low vision specialist which brand or make they like and what features their favorite one has to offer.

His low vision specialist not only can assist in helping him select the make that is best for him, but can also train and then teach him how to use it.
