Learning Fast - Early Stages of Macular Degeneration

by Kate
(Lancashire, UK)

February 2011 I suddenly became very blurred in the right eye with double vision whilst driving!

I managed to get an appointment within the hour at a TESCO (UK) optician who found spots on the retina/macular.

He sent me off to the local hospital department and I was seen early April 2011. A lovely doctor said that if I was older (I am 50) she would diagnose age related macular degeneration. BUT because of my age and the fact that my vision returned to normal after 24 hours to keep and 'eye' on it.

I now have an in depth vision test with Specsavers (!) and they take an image for me to check year on year.

I do find that when I have done a lot of reading or computer screen work that my distance vision blurs and I have slight double vision.

I have been told about the Amsler Grid and advised on what to look for.

I did worry at first, but your website has so much positive news that I am resigned to whatever comes and will face it calmly. I hope not to deteriorate too soon and treasure what I have.

I am losing weight and eating healthily as advised by your and other sites, purchased a 100% UVA hat to were in the sun and I always wear Raybans - which I have done for many years, so I can do no more. Thank you.
