Read iPod Touch reviews to learn about special features that can be used as low vision technology for those with macular degeneration.

Features such as Voice Control, Voice Commands, and Zoom Technology make the iPod Touch easy to see and use.

You can easily listen to audio books or podcasts anyplace and anytime.

You may want to consider an iPod as a means to listen to books, your favorite podcasts, favorite radio shows and more.

iTouch Reviews

iTouch reviews for those with age related macular degeneration need to focus on the features that will benefit those with low vision or vision problems.

The iPod Touch 3rd Generation is one of the easiest technologies to use - the picture icons make it easier to see than small text.

Zoom Text

The ability to zoom in or out and enlarge the letters in your e-mail or ebook makes the iPod Touch great for those with low vision. There are several ways to apply the zoom feature.

1. For your e-mails

While touching your screen, pinch your thumb and pointer finger together and then slowly, gently move your fingers apart. This will zoom the text of your e-mail. Change your configuration to landscape for easier reading and viewing.

2. Enlarge the Entire Screen - i.e. Picture Icons

Go to Settings - to General - to - Accessibility - Zoom

a. Turn it to Onb. Double Tap the Screen with 3 fingersc. Drag 3 fingers while zoomed to move around the screend. Double Tap the screen with 3 fingers to go back to normal size

3. For ebooks

I am sure it depends on which ebook application you have downloaded. The one I am using is called I Flow Reader.

The settings can be adjusted to just about any font size, background color, and font color for good contrast.

Voice Control

Voice control is available on the iPod Touch 32 GB Third Generation. The headset needs to be in to activate it.

You can give voice commands to play or pause music only, but it can't be used for other applications, like audio books or podcasts.

Free Podcasts

As your macular degeneration progresses you will need to find ways to adapt. If reading becomes too difficult consider listening to audiobooks or podcasts.

Listening to podcasts opens up so many more areas of interests besides audio books. And many of them are free and are available from iTunes. They can be directly downloaded to the Ipod Touch 3rd Generation if you have access to Wi Fi.

Free Audio Books on Line

Free audio books on line are available. Books that are now part of the public domain are free - most of these books are classics - which are some of my favorite books.

Using your iPod Touch 3rd Generation you simply go to the App Store and purchase Audiobook Player for 99 cents and then the audio books are free to download.

Discount Audiobooks

Discount audiobooks can be downloaded right to your iPod Touch 3rd Generation. There is no need to download to the computer, convert any files, hook up a USB cable, etc.

You can listen to your iPod Touch anywhere using either headsets or I have a small speaker/docking set that has excellent sound quality that sits in my kitchen. Discount Audio Books

Ebook Reading Device

The iPod Touch can be used as an ebook reading device. Books can be easily downloaded to the device - however, the screen is much smaller than other e book readers.

The iTouch screen is only 3" x 2" compared to the largest ebook reading device, the Kindle DX.

The Kindle DX has an almost 10" screen. The Kindle 2 and the Sony Electronic Book Reader both have a 6" screen.

The more you magnify the font the more you need a larger screen.

As the font is magnified the more frequently you need to "turn pages" or go to a new screen.

It becomes difficult to view whole sentences or paragraphs with a small screen and magnified fonts.
