Left eye when first diagnosed

Left eye when first diagnosed

This started in 2003 with distortion in the left eye. I was told it was not macular degeneration but a burn. I guess it's rare enough for someone born in 1957 that it was misdiagnosed.

In a little over 4 years, the right eye was noticeably affected. A few months after that in early 2008, I had an "event" which took my vision from about 20\50 to 20\100.

The left eye is gone at 20\800 and I'm not having it treated. None of my family has ever had this.

Avastin hasn't slowed it down thus far. My retinologist is now trying Lucentis. I've had 7 treatments in a row with no sign of improvement or even slowing the condition.

There is nothing else that can be done. In a couple of years I'm expecting the right eye to be like the left.

Dry AMD dramatically improved!
by: Anonymous

Leslie, you asked about stages, and Jerry said Kaiser didn't mention any stage. I've not done a lot of research on AMD, but I don't recall a mention of stages. It was, however, dry AMD. He had drusen.

I'm not sure why the website for microcurrent stimlation was included. It looks not quite as complete as what Dr. Lundgren included in his treatment, but I'm sure there must be various ways of dealing with this problem.

We are so very pleased with everything about our experience that we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else...

Jerry's playing a video game?actually, he's racing on a track (!), and said that everything is so much clearer. There were words on the screen that he said he had not been able to read with his left eye before the treatments. We're still digesting the change!

Thanks for the clarification on your husband's diagnosis. I included a link to information on microcurrent stimulation for those who may not know what it is and how it works.

Thanks for sharing.

AMD treatment WORKED!
by: Anonymous

My husband and I, both retired schoolteachers, have just returned from Santa Fe where he had five acupuncture sessions with Dr. Alston Lundgren. We never dreamed that my husband would regain some vision in his bad left eye.

It went from 20/200 to 20/63. His right eye was just beginning to be affected, but was still 20/20, with a translucent circle beginning to form in the center of his vision.

Now he tests at 20/10 (he has always had excellent vision, which is why this was so devastating.

Dr. Lundgren uses electric stimulation around the eyes and the head with very precise placement.

I was skeptical, but the Kaiser doctors held out no hope, so we had nothing to lose. You do pay for it yourself, but if there is no improvement, you do not pay anything.

We would have gladly paid twice as much for the improvement we saw. He can read signs he couldn't read before. In the left eye, the opaque circle is now more lattice-like, and the circle is much smaller.

In the right eye, the circle was just beginning to form, and he has little dots where the circle used to be. We aren't paid to write this, of course, but we are so thrilled that I wish more people knew about it.

Dr. Lundgren treats both dry and wet, but not with active bleeding. Good luck!

P.S. Could you please tell us more about your husband's diagnosis? Was it dry macular degeneration? What stage? Did he have drusen? Thanks.

Wishing you the Best - Saffron Oil and Macular Degeneration
by: Anonymous

I'm so sorry to hear about what's happening with your eyes. I've recently read that saffron has been shown in studies to help restore some vision in people with AMD. Maybe it's worth a try for you. I wish you all the best and hope the Lucentis starts to work for you.
