Free Large Print Books

Free large print books are available at most local libraries or you can turn every book into large print with an electronic book reader.

Large Print Books - Local Library

Free large print books are no longer available from the National Association for the Vision Impaired (NAVH), in New York.

According to their website the program has been permanently discontinued.

However, check with your local library. Our library has a large section of large print books all in one section.

Check to see if your library provides free delivery for the vision impaired or for seniors who can no longer drive.

If the book you want to read is not available from your local library you can fill out a request. Some libraries will purchase it and others will check the other libraries within their system to see if they have it.

If you are an avid reader, purchasing large print books can become quite costly.

Electronic Book Readers

Electronic book readers like the Kindle DX, Barnes and Noble Nook, and Sony e-book reader can turn every book and newspaper into a large print book.

Just by pressing a button you can enlarge the font and enhance the contrast for easier reading.

There is no need for a computer. Books download directly to the wireless device using a cell phone signal if you purchase the ebook readers with a 3G network. There is no monthly charge for the connection.

Libraries are now making e-books available that can be downloaded onto an e-book reader, such as the Barnes and Noble Nook. The Kindle reader now offers this benefit as well.

Books are on loan to your device just like a hard copy book and simply disappear when they are "due back."
