Free Talking Books
by Mary
(United States)
I am writing on behalf of an elderly friend. She would like a listening device that is portable, so she can go outside in her facility and sit in the fresh air, or even move easily to other rooms.
Is that possible? Are there smaller portable listening devices?
Thank you! Mary

Hi Mary,
Thanks for helping your elderly friend. Free talking books or books on tape are available for those with macular degeneration from the National Library Service for the Blind (although you do not need to be blind).
Once the application is submitted and processed, a cassette player is mailed out and the audio book selection can be made by specific request of a title or author. Find out how to apply here:

I am not aware of any resources that provide free magnifiers or low vision aids.
