First Wet AMD now hole in retina at 48

Hi,my wife and I decided to go and have our eyes tested for new reading glasses as our old perscriptions weren't as good anymore. At the test the optometrist said I had a spot in my eye that he wanted to keep an eye on so I was to make an appointment again in 3 months.

On getting the new glasses two weeks later I started to experience wavy lines ?when I looked at things. At first I put it down to the new glasses. However on going back to the optometrist, he made an urgent appointment with an opthamologist. His diagonsis was a suspected blister behind the eye and to come to him in 2 months time.
During that time my eye sight went down hill quickly and was diagonsed with Wet AMD when I went back. My first injection was less than a week later, followed by 2 more. The test proved these to be successful. I have had another three montly injections and have now been told I have a hole in my retina and will need an operation to repair.

But the hole is very large and may need another op to get it fixed properly. At the moment I am legally blind in my left eye. Has anyone else had this op?

Is it worth it when I may have to go through it all again if it doesn't work properly the first time? I am 48 years old.I;m also interested in alternative treatments as I have high colesterol levels and my liver count is always high when I have a blood test. Thanks Steve

Macular Degeneration, the Liver and Our Eyes
by: Anonymous

Hi Steve,

I am sorry to hear of the problems you are having with your eyes - the left eye in particular. I cannot advise you regarding surgery for your eye, however, you mention that your liver count is always high.

It may help you to do a search on this site for 'the liver' and read the related posts from various people.

Chinese medicine believes the liver plays an important part in our overall health - and especially the eyes.

Dr Sandra Cabot, an Australian doctor, has written many books over a long period of time, which are not outlandish - they just suggest a sensible way of life regarding health, eating and exercise. You may like to read them.

I found them of great assistance regarding my eye/liver/general health.

Wishing you all the best....Barb
