Treatment for Eye Floaters
In most cases treatment for eye floaters will be ...to do nothing. That's because they (for the most part) are harmless clumps or strands inside the vitreous that are the result of the clear like gel pulling away from the back wall of the retina. This commonly occurs as we age.
If there is a sudden increase in floaters along with flashes of light or a loss of vision, contact your eye doctor immediately. It could mean a detached retina, which can cause a permanent loss of vision.
Medical Treatment
Medical treatment is rarely used for vision floaters. But if their are so many of them that it interferes with your vision, it is possible to have a vitrectomy.
A hollow needle is inserted into the eye to withdraw the vitreous gel from your eye. A saltwater solution replaces the gel. There are risks involved with this procedure such as a retinal detachment and cataracts.
Floaters and Nutrition
According to Dr. Marc Grossman, O.D., L.Ac., optometrist and licensed acupuncturist, "Bilberry improves circulation in the blood vessels of the eye, helps maintain the integrity of capillaries, stabilizes collagen, and stimulates the production of rhodopsin essential for night vision."He also states that it is a myth that nothing can be done about floaters, but rather there may be treatment and prevention of floaters through proper diet, lifestyle and supplements.
