Dry Macular Degeneration Treatment

What is the newest proven treatment for dry macular degeneration?
REPLY
Hi Theresa,
Macular degeneration is the result of several different processes that result in the degeneration or dying of cells in the macula.
Processes like chronic inflammation and oxidation lead to aging and degenerative diseases. Poor circulation prevents nutrients and oxygen from getting to the macula and prevents built up waste from being removed.
The health of our eyes is also an indicator of the health of our body.
So although there is no one pill or procedure that cures dry macular degeneration, there is lots of research that supports the role of lifestyle and nutrition in this retinal disease.

What is the latest progress in curing dry macular degeneration?
REPLY
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your question. There really is no treatment that states it cures dry macular degeneration. We are now seeing more clinical trials for advanced dry AMD - called geographic atrophy but it will be probably years before results will be published.
Dr. Phil Rosenfeld, a macular degeneration specialist at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida is researching treatment for dry macular degeneration. He did an e-interview on his clinical trial with WebRN-MacularDegeneration readers. Find out about this exciting new study:
