Answer
Hi Elizabeth,
It looks like the closest macular degeneration clinical trial for dry age related macular degeneration is this study in Baltimore:
A Study of the Safety, Tolerability, Pharmacokinetics, and Immunogenicity of Intravitreal Injections of FCFD4514S in Patients With Geographic Atrophy
To be eligible for this study you need to have: "Geographic atrophy (GA) at least 0.75 disc areas in the absence of choroidal neovascularization (CNV)."

Hi Stephanie,
I wish I had more to offer you for clinical trials for dry AMD. At this time (August 2010) there are very few - only 12 in the United States - some in Texas, Florida, California, Kentucky.
So the closest one to you is in New York. If you'd like to read about this study click here:

I was just diagnosed with Macular Degeneration "DRY" and I am a 32 year old female.
The doctor said I will probaly see the effect in 10 years. I don't need glasses or contacts.
Is there any trials for my age group to try and prevent this?
REPLY
Hi Rosetta,
Most clinical trials for dry macular degeneration are for those 50 and older and have advanced dry macular degeneration. However, now is a good time to pay attention to your lifestyle and diet.

Dry Macular Degeneration - Pennyslvania
by Barb
(Doylestown, PA 18901)
Hi,
I am 68 (female) and was diagnosed with AMD when I was 59. I was in a clinical trial study at the Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA for 5 years. There were no positive results from that study.
I have just about no vision in my right eye which is the eye that was lasered for this study. My left eye is still OK but slowly deteriorating.
I also have early stage cataracts.
I don't know how much longer I will be able to drive and hold down a job but need to work to pay my mortgage.
I am divorced and the mother of 3 grown children and grandmother of one.
I found out about 5 yrs. ago that my 2nd cousin, on my mother's side, also had AMD.
My daughter had a difficult pregnancy and now has Amy - 2-1/2 yrs. old and I would like to SEE her grow and enjoy Happy years with her.
I pray every day that someone finds a cure for this disease.

Hi Barb,
Currently there are not clinical trials for the treatment of dry macular degeneration in Pennsylvania.
I'm sorry to hear that vision in your left eye is starting to deteriorate.

HI, I AM 53 YRS OLD AND I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED FOR ABOUT 15-16 YRS. I LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA, PA. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW DO I QUALIFY FOR TRIAL??? PLZ REPLY ....

Thanks for your question. If you were diagnosed 15-16 years ago at the age of 37 or so - this is not your typical age related macular degeneration.
Perhaps some form of macular dsytrophy? Have you seen a retina specialist?
Tell me a little more about your diagnosis and then I can do a clinical trial search for you.
Thanks.

I have been diagnosed with dry AMD with a blind spot in my right eye that they first thought was a piece of retina gel but have now said is part of the AMD.
My father and mother both had dry AMD. I'm 58, love to read and am a visual person, this diagnosis really scared me. Is there anything in the offing for dry AMD - any studies? I live in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Currently the closest two studies for dry AMD will be in Baltimore and Bethesda, Maryland.

Clinical trials can have different purposes. There is no clinical trial in the Philadelphia area looking at treatment - but there is an intersting trial on low vision rehab that includes several home visits to help you reach your vision potential and personal goals.

Hi Sharon,
It would be unusual for you to have wet AMD with no vision loss.
