Computer Screen Magnifier
by Marilyn
(United States)
I am looking for a device that fits over the computer screen (an older model of computer) that acts as a magnifier;
This device is needed for an elderly man who has macular degeneration. Can you recommend a company that sells such a product?

Hi Marilyn,

There is a Computer Screen Magnifier made by Reizen that is for the older monitors - not a flat screen monitor. It magnifies 2X and also helps to reduce glare.
Kind Regards,
Leslie

Computer Font Magnifcation
by Murray
(United States)
Dear Leslie,
That was interesting about the hallucinations- so far I haven't experienced that.
I am 89 and have the dry M.D. My husband also recently was diagnosed with wet so we're sort of the blind leading the blind but thank God we can still see .
I am still driving as my distant vision seems to be pretty good but reading is very hard for us both.. I'm having trouble reading my E-Mail or anything with a small font.
Someone told me there is some way to enlarge everything on the monitor screen. Where coud I get some information on that? People that know us do enlarge the font but that's only mostly family. Thank you for the news you send.. Reply
Here are two things to try if you have Windows XP
1) Simply hold the Control key and click the + key. Hitting the - (minus) key will make the page smaller.
2) Magnifier is a display utility for those who have Windows XP that makes the computer screen more readable by people who have low vision by creating a separate window that displays a magnified portion of the screen. This is how to access it:
On the Start menu:
Point to All Programs
Point to Accessories
Point to Accessibility
Select Magnifier.
I found it easy to use, however at first the screen seemed confusing. You can magnify to the power of 9. I found as I increased the magnification the font became more difficult to read. But it's free if you have Windows XP and maybe worth a try before buying expensive software.

Computer Screen Magnifier

(United States)
Hello Leslie,
Has anyone found an ideal magnifier for their computer screen? This would help my mom out so much.
Thank you.

Hi Terri,
Maxiaids makes a computer monitor magnifier that easily attaches to the computer monitor.
This one fits monitors 14" - 17" - but not a flat screen monitor. It magnifies 2X.
Kind Regards,
Leslie

Hi Tara,
Sorry about the slow response. I am on vacation this week and just getting to a computer today.
I found these large print keyboard stickers that say's they will work on laptops or netbooks. They only cost $12.
