Hi,
My namis Shiva. I recently asked a question regarding bulls eye maculopathy cone dystrophy.
You said that you will get back to me after contacting NIH or NIL website.
May I know if the stem cell treatment works for this disease or not.
I will be glad to hear some good news regarding this issue.
Thanks,
Ellari

Hi Ellari,
There are stem cell clinical trials for dry macular degeneration and for Stargardt's disease. These studies are just in Phase I - meaning the study simply is looking to see if it is safe to implant stem cells. The next phase will look at efficacy or effectiveness.
Currently there are no clinical trials listed at clinicaltrials.gov for Cone Rod Dystrophy treatment.

Bulls Eye Maculopathy - Stem Cells

Hi,
I have Bulls Eye maculopathy caused by taking Chloroquine for arthritis. I was wondering if I might be a good candidate for stem cell therapy.
I have read in the other postings that it is being used in some macular degeneration cases and thought maybe it would be appropriate for my condition.

Dear Shiva, I am sorry to hear of the progression of the disease. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any develops that might retard the progression of the disease. I would query the NIH web site for any "funded" research studies. I wish I could be more useful and helpful.
