Blueberry Smoothies

Blueberry smoothies are a regular treat at our house since we have several blueberry bushes growing in our backyard. We eat fresh blueberries daily in the summer and freeze the rest to make our healthy smoothies year round.

These berries have one of the highest antioxidant capacities of the 40 different fruits and vegetables tested, according to USDA scientists Dr. Ronald Prior and Dr. Guohua Cao.

Including foods high in antioxidants at every meal is a good practice to counteract the aging affects of free radicals.

To make a healthy smoothie we need to be sure we include some healthy fats and foods low that have a low glycemic index.

How to Make Smoothies

I only use frozen fruit, that way the smoothie has a cold, refreshing consistency. When possible, I buy frozen, organic fruit or blueberries.

Blueberry Smoothies

1 Cup of Blueberry Kefir or Plain Kefir
1 Cup of Frozen Blueberries

1/4 Cup of Wheat Germ
2 Tablespoons of Flax Seed Oil

1/2 Cup of Almond Milk (Unsweetened)

1/4 teaspoon of Stevia

Put in your blender and and blend to the consistency that you like. If you like it thicker put in less liquid - if you like it thinner you can add more almond milk or filtered water.
