Binocular Vision

I have HistoPlasmosis in both eyes. Each eye has scars on or near the focal center which makes it very difficult to focus at a distance or read without magnification.
For distance binoculars are very helpful, but require the use of hands. I have Mac computers that are a blessing and for near vision I use a camera magnifier.
I saw on your web site binocular glasses for distance. How helpful would this device be to having a significant improvement in seeing at a distance? Could you offer other suggestions?
Are these products covered in your web site available for trial?

Hi Dan,
Sounds like you are doing a good job of adapting and adjusting by using different low vision magnifiers for different tasks.
Yes, binocular vision, or seeing things at a distance like movies, sporting events or concerts are just as important as seeing things close up.
These types of low vision magnifiers are very helpful.
My recommendation is to always seek out a low vision specialist who can make a recommendation that is best for you and your low vision needs.
E-mail me back with the name of your nearest large city and state and I can see if there are any low vision services in your area.
If that is not possible then a couple of things to consider are:
1. Are you looking for glasses that are hands free or hand held?
2. What power magnification do you need?
Remember, the weaker the power the wider the field of vision - the stronger the power, the smaller the field of vision.
If you make a purchase over the internet be sure to find out what the return policy is. Maxiaids carries a limited selection of binoculars and you can see them by clicking here:

Items from Maxiaids can be returned if they are sent back in a certain time frame. You would be responsible for the cost of shipping the item back and some returned magnifiers may have a restocking fee - so as long as you are comfortable with their return policy then you can make a purchase and give them a try.
