Antioxidant and Free Radicals

Antioxidants and free radicals are a concern for anyone that is aging ... and isn't that all of us?

What are Free Radicals?

"Almost every single one of the risk factors we have for macular degeneration can be linked to free radicals."

Dr. Lylas G. Mogk, M. D. ophthalmologist and author of Macular Degeneration: The Complete Guide to Saving and Maximizing Your Sight

Many of the risk factors that contribute to the development of macular degeneration and other diseases like cancer and heart disease can be tied to free radicals and the damage they cause.

Free radicals are unstable electrons that cause damage to our cells and especially to the macula where there is a lot of oxidation.

What is Oxidation?

Free radical formation is the result of normal chemical reactions in the body called oxidation which then leaves the body with thousands of unbalanced electrons.

These unstable electrons cause damage to our cells and especially the macula where there is a lot of oxidation. This oxidation is due to exposure to:

√ car exhaust

√ sunlight

√ environmental Toxins in the air, food and water

√ household cleaners and chemicals

√ cigarette smoke and

√ pesticides.

Keeping our free radicals in balance is extremely critical in the prevention of macular degeneration, in fighting disease in general, and in the aging battle. Click here to read more:

Free Radicals and Disease

Free radical damage is a very real concern - and I am not just talking about your eyes. When our antioxidant and free radicals ratio is out of balance the result is celluar damage - at the DNA level - which can result in:

√ inflammation

√ aging

√ cancer

√ degenerative diseases like macular degeneration and

√ autoimmune disorders.

How do they cause this damage? Free radicals are the result of normal chemical reactions in the body called oxidation which then leaves the body with thousands of unbalanced electrons.

These unstable electrons can then cause damage to our cells and especially the macula where there is a lot of oxidation.

Keeping our free radicals in balance is extremely critical in the prevention of macular degeneration, in fighting disease in general, and in the aging battle.

What are Antioxidants?

What are antioxidants? They are the heroes of health. Antioxidants supply the missing electron that is needed to balance the free radical so that the cell is neutralized and now unable to cause damage and injury to healthy cells and tissue.

Antioxidants are a powerful, silent weapon working to protect our cells and our bodies from inflammation, degenerative diseases, cancer and macular degeneration. Click here to read more: Benefits of Antioxidants
