What Questions Should I Ask my Eye Doctor? January 19, 2010 |
Hello What Questions Should I Ask my Eye Doctor?
As a registered nurse, I always recommend that you bring another family member or friend to the appointment. Ask your friend to listen and to take notes about your eye condition and any recommendations that the physician makes. After the appointment, go over the notes together sharing what you both heard being discussed. Then talk about what steps you plan to take to move forward - i.e. diet changes, make an appointment with low vision rehab or occupational therapy, start taking macular degeneration vitamins or supplements, purchase visual aids, etc. Before you go to your next appointment, be prepared with a list of questions to ask your eye specialist. Have an extra copy of these questions for the family member coming with you. These questions can include such things as: What type of macular degeneration do I have? What are my treatment options? Are there any studies or clinical trials that I might be eligible for?
