Page Magnifiers - Turn Every Book, Magazine and Newspaper into Large Print

My father-in-law who has wet macular degeneration has found it increasingly difficult to read books or newspapers.

He often used a handheld magnifier, which is a good vision aid for spot reading, but is not meant for reading for any length of time. Reading a book or article quickly became tedious for him when only a few words could be magnified at one time.

Page magnifiers, especially a lighted full page magnifier, makes it possible to read books, newspapers and magazines without eye strain. Reading becomes so much more enjoyable when the whole page is magnified versus just a couple of words.

We purchased a high quality full page magnifier that has made all the difference for him. There were several features about the one we purchased that make it a great reading aid for someone with macular degeneration.

1. LED Lights

The twelve LED lights on this magnifier provide a nice bright light without glare. As one's macular degeneration progresses the need for better lighting becomes more imperative. Better lighting means that lower power magnification is needed.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are small, solid light bulbs which provide a very bright light for increased visibility and are known for their longevity and reliability.

2. Magnification

This high quality polymer lens provides 2.5 magnification. The larger the size of the lens the less apt it is to provide a higher power.

We were uncertain if this would be enough magnification for him since his vision has deteriorated quite a bit. (I wish I could give you his acuity numbers, but he was unable to provide them to me).

He was delighted with the results of even just 2.5 magnification with the bright lights.

3. Full Page

Reading a page, versus a few words or a sentence at a time, makes reading books and magazines so much more enjoyable.

Now he can concentrate on the story or the plot instead of struggling to make out a single word.

4. Gooseneck Floor Lamp

The adjustable gooseneck makes it possible to adjust the magnifier and the light in many different positions.

It is easy to place the magnifier at the best distance for clarity and focus.

5. Hands Free Magnifier

My father-in-law now loves reading again. No more holding a magnifier to only read a couple of words. Of course this hands free magnifier can also be used for hobbies as well.
