Could You Do Me A Simple Favor?
January 18, 2012
Hello

As I mentioned a couple of months ago, www.WebRN-MacularDegeneration.com was hit by an updated Google algorithm, so that many of the pages on the website are not coming up as one of the top ten when performing a search with Google.

There are lots of different reasons for this, some of them being things that I need to correct to make the website more user friendly. I have been spending the last couple of months re-doing many pages in a way that Google likes.

You can help too. If you found this page or any other pages on the website informative or helpful, just go to the top left corner where you see the Facebook button and hit the "Like" button and post it to your Facebook page.

This helps to build the traffic numbers which then attracts the attention of Google in a positive way.

Thanks for your help and consideration! Leslie

Who's Your Favorite Team?

Several Macular Degeneration News readers kindly emailed me to let me know of my grammatical error in the first title that went out today. So now it is correct and I appreciate those friendly emails keeping me on my toes :)

Lately, there always seems to be a "very important" football game on at my house on the weekends. His favorite football team is playing and it's the playoffs is what my husband tells me. How many favorite football teams do you have I asked? I think his answer boiled down to "whatever team is playing."

We've seen some incredible passes made by quarterbacks, unbelievable catches made by wide receivers, and amazing field goals made by kickers. Together as a team, along with great coaching, each player is critical to the success of any sports team.

In much the same way, someone with macular degeneration needs different specialists who play different roles on their eye care team.

From retina doctors who have received additional training to optometrists who specialize in assessing and prescribing low vision glasses, they all play a critical role in how well one successfully manages to live with macular degeneration.

Retina Specialist

I received a call at work from an elderly man looking to make an appointment for his 3rd opinion from a retina specialist to treat/cure his wet macular degeneration. He didn't feel he was getting the help or answers he was looking for from his two other retina doctors. After asking him a few more questions, I asked if he had ever heard of low vision services or specialists.

Unaware of how these eye specialists could assess and then prescribe special glasses and vision aids to meet his needs, I explained to him what our low vision services could offer him. Although he did make an appointment with our retina specialist, he was thrilled to find out about our low vision clinic.

He was most grateful to find out that there was more help available for him than from only a retina doctor.

How about you? Who is on your eye care team helping you to win and successfully live with macular degeneration?
