Why Monitor My Vision? June 29, 2009 |
Hello Why Monitor My Vision?
By looking at the Amsler grid, with one eye, you can check to see if there are any changes in the way you see the grid. Some of the things you would look for are: √ Wavy Lines, crooked or distorted lines √ Dark Spots or holes on the grid √ Blurriness By noticing any changes in how the grid appears, you may be able to detect any new blood vessel growth in the macula. Early detection of leaking blood vessels will allow your physician to treat them with laser. For laser treatment to be effective, early detection of wet macular degeneration is critical. Early treatment may help to limit or at least to slow the vision loss you experience. You may have the slow developing form of macular degeneration known as dry macular degeneration and don't think this vision monitoring pertains to you - but it does. Those with dry AMD need to regularly check their vision, as it can develop into the wet form. If you do notice any changes in your vision, contact your eye care specialist right away.
