Is There a Macular Degeneration Clinical Trial Near You?
December 15, 2009
Hello

Want Help Finding a Macular Degeneration Study?

Have you ever considered participating in a clinical trial for your macular degeneration? Macular degeneration studies look at many different aspects of this retinal disease. The purpose may be to improve the visual acuity for those with macular degeneration or to slow the progression of dry AMD to wet AMD.

A study may look at preventing macular degeneration or evaluating a visual rehabilitation therapy. It may be trying to determine what are the best ways to detect macular disease by looking at the thickness of the macular pigment or seeing how prevalent depression is in those with low vision.

Macular Degeneration Studies

A listing of macular degeneration studies can be found at the U.S. National Institutes of Health website.

Although it is a United States registry, clinical trials from all over the world are included in their listings.

Participating in clinical trials can have benefits and risks. However, the first step is to see if there even is one that is of interest to you, the second step is to see if you qualify.

Every clinical trial has strict criteria as to who is eligible to be in the study and who is not. If you find that you are eligible for a study, it is important to ask about not only the possible benefits of the study, but also the risks - such as short term or long term side effects if drugs are involved.

To find out if there is a study going on in your country or state you can perform your own search by typing in keywords like "wet macular degeneration California" or "dry macular degeneration New York."

If you are having difficulty performing the search yourself, I can help you. There is a form you can fill out that will go to me and I can do a search for you.
