Hello

Please Read

Yesterday I received a call at work from a man who was diagnosed with dry macular degeneration over a year ago. He had recently moved into the area and was needing an ophthalmologist.

He had noticed some changes in his vision - blurriness and inability to focus. Images were not as sharp and vivid as they had been a year ago.

I asked him what he knew about macular degeneration and what was he doing to support his eye health. He responded that he knew very little about AMD. He only remembers that his eye doctor had recommended some eye supplements, but that he had not done so nor had he read any material or books about AMD.

Dear Readers (as author Charlotte Bronte would say in Jane Eyre), please read. Don't take a wait and see attitude like the patient I talked to. There is so much you can do to try to prevent the development or progression of this retinal disease.

Take time to become educated sooner rather than later. Once photoreceptor cells begin to die, it is harder to impact your vision with diet and lifestyle.

Don't limit your information to just the internet. Two of the most comprehensive books on macular degeneration are written by board certified ophthalmologists. They cover topics about the disease, treatment, lifestyle, nutrition, supplements and visual aids.

The first book is written by Lylas Mogk, MD whose father has lived with macular degeneration for many years. The name of her book is Macular Degeneration: The Complete Guide to Saving and Maximizing Your Sight.

The second book is Macular Degeneration: A Complete Guide for Patients and Their Families and is written by another retina specialist Dr. Michael Samuel.

There are some other excellent macular degeneration books as well. To see what they are and for a more indepth explanation of what topics are covered in them click here:
