What is the Best Light for Macular Degeneration? July 15, 2009 |
Hello What is the Best Light for Macular Degeneration?
As your macular degeneration progresses you will need more lights around the house and stronger lighting. Good lighting can make reading and other tasks more enjoyable and easier. It is also possible that with better lighting you may need less magnification. And with lower magnification the larger the field of vision. Some simple tips are: √ Use the strongest bulb recommended for the light fixture √ Have more lamps and lights in the house and especially near furniture, stairways, doors, and closets. √ Use a swing arm lamp or one that is adjustable and can be brought close to your reading material. The closer the lamp is to your task the lower the lightbulb power needs to be. In other words, the farther away the light is the stronger the bulb needs to be. √ Use lamps that also provide magnification. There are many floor lamp magnifiers and magnifying desk lamps.
