Hello

Gift Ideas for Those with Macular Degeneration

If your loved one or friend is experiencing vision loss due to macular degeneration, they may not be aware of the many wonderful visual aids and magnifiers that are available to them. My father-in-law is one of those people.

Although we have tried to get him to meet with a low vision specialist who can better advise him, he doesn't think these services are for him. So each year we try to buy him a visual aid, or a macular degeneration magnifier that can help make life a little bit easier.

Low Vision Gifts of Time

However, a low vision gift doesn't have to be something you go buy and wrap up in a box. The best gift, if we lived nearby, would be to take him out for dinner, to a baseball game, or for a ride in the country.

Your friend or loved one may enjoy some of these other gifts of time:

Offer to take then to lunch or to an event

Provide a ride to a hair, dentist or doctor appointment

Take them shopping

Give an extra hand around the house

Do some yard work or house cleaning

Invite them to your home for an evening of games (provide large print cards or large tile Scrabble)

Visual Aids for Macular Degeneration

If you are needing some suggestions to help with gift ideas to have under the Christmas tree, there are so many great visual aids to help with telling time, cooking, writing checks, watching TV, or reading.

We just bought a couple of small handheld, lighted magnifiers from Bigger and Brighter for my father-in-law to keep in different rooms in the house (including one for the garage and basement). They are offering free shipping if you spend over $30.
