A Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving

Hello

A Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving

I am thankful to all of you readers who have subscribed to Macular Degeneration News and to those of you who have taken the time to e-mail me or to post comments to help others. The number of visitors to the website and the number of new subscribers grows everyday - so a big "Thank-you."

I will be hosting our Thanksgiving dinner this year with family and friends. There are those of us who, even on holidays try to maintain an anti-inflammatory diet

Anti-Inflammatory Diet

One way to help control chronic inflammation is to substitute low glycemic carbs for bad carbs. It really isn't that hard to do and it can be done without sacrificing taste.

Although, I will be making mashed potatoes to go with the turkey, I am also making my Thanksgiving specialty - which is sweet potato souffle. Sweet potatoes have a lower glycemic index than regular potatoes.

Low Glycemic Carbs

Some other easy low carb tips are:

1. Serve whole grain rolls instead of breads made with white flour.

2. Make a fresh spinach and strawberry salad. A home made dressing made of olive oil and a little bit of honey is better than a store bought one that has high fructose corn syrup.

3. Use stevia instead of sugar when making your annual cranberry relish.

However, when it comes to desserts, if I served the Baked Red Apples recipe from The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book instead of pecan pie, I may have a riot on my hands.
