Is an iPod Touch Considered Low Vision Technology? February 02, 2010 |
Hello Is an iPod Touch Considered Low Vision Technology?
This year for Christmas I received the iPod Touch 32 GB 3rd Generation. For me it is a great way to listen to podcasts and audio books on my commute to work as a registered nurse. There are some great features that make this little piece of technology easy to use and may save you some money in the long run. Voice Control, Voice Commands, and Zoom Technology are some of the features that Apple has added as a commitment to those with vision disabilities.
Voice ControlVoice control is available on the iPod Touch 32 GB Third Generation. The headset needs to be in to activate it.You can give voice commands to play or pause music only, but it can't be used for other applications, like audio books or podcasts. Free PodcastsFor someone who enjoys listening to speakers free podcasts are easily downloaded right to the iPod Touch 3rd Generation. We have wireless internet at home - it is so easy to download right to the device without having to use a computer. If you are using a CD or tape player to listen to books, you don't have the option of listening to the variety of interesting speakers that are available by podcast.
Free Audio Books on LineThis is a great, portable device for those who enjoy listening to books and either want to take a break from the eye strain of reading or perhaps they can no longer read.I have downloaded several free audio books to listen to. Most of the free ones are classics and are now part of public domain. The readers are volunteers so they are not as good as audio books that use professional readers - but they still are enjoyable. You can purchase many professionally read audio books for $5-$10.
Zoom TextThe ability to zoom in or out and enlarge the font in your e-mail or ebook makes the iPod Touch great for those with low vision. There are several ways to apply the zoom feature. You can also use the zoom text to enlarge the icons for those who need it.
