Antioxidant Rich Berries - Benefits to Eyes

We had our three grandchildren staying with us for a couple of days and one of the activities we enjoyed most was picking blueberries and blackberries .... right in our backyard. My mantra to them was, "You can eat as many berries as you pick."

Two thornless blackberry bushes grow on a fence and are covered with large, sweet berries.

Thanks to lots of sunshine and rain, our blueberry bushes have produced a large enough crop to fill the freezer. While we are sharing our bounty with neighbors and family, we are not sharing with the birds this year as we have all of the plants covered in netting.

One of Three Top Superfoods

Why do we care so much about getting lots of these antioxidant rich berries in our diet? Blueberries, along with Alaskan salmon and spinach, are the three top SuperFoods recommended by ophthalmologist Dr. Steven Pratt the author of SuperFoods HealthStyle: A Year of Rejuvenation.

This is what he has to say about this summer fruit, "Blueberries are such powerful health promoters that if you ate only three Superfoods, blueberries, along with wild Alaskan salmon and spinach, you would be ahead of the game."

I don't know about you, but of the three, blueberries are my favorite. They, of course, are not the only antioxidant rich berries that provide benefits to the eyes and the macula. Find out more ...
