Why Goji Berry Juice?
July 29, 2009
Hello

Goji Berry Juice - Good for Our Eyes

The goji wolfberry has had quite a buzz lately - claiming all kinds of health benefits. While all of the claims may not be well researched, this berry is very nutrient rich and has some powerful antioxidants that benefits our vision.

No one food can meet all the nutritional needs of our body or our eyes, so always incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables. That said, when we do eat or drink, why not eat the foods or drinks that are going to bring the greatest benefit to our bodies and in this case our eyes.

Goji berries benefits to the macula are the result of their high antioxidant compounds, including zeaxanthin.

Zeaxanthin, along with lutein, make up the macular pigment, which protects our eyes from the harmful effects of light. Goji berries are also rich in many other important nutrients like:

Vitamin C

Cryptoxanthin - a natural carotenoid pigment

Beta Carotene

Iron

B Vitamins

Selenium

Zinc

Iron

Potassium

Calcium

Polysaccharides - complex carbohydrates

Essential fatty acids - linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid

Beta-sitosterol and other phytosterols

The content of these nutrients do depend on the maturity of the plant at harvesting, growing and soil conditions, geographic region, processing and length of storage.

After trying the berries, my husband and I have switched to goji berry juice for our macular degeneration diet. It is much easier to drink down a small glass in the morning (on an empty stomach) than it was to eat the berries.

You can find goji berry juice at health food stores, on-line or through network marketers. Select juice that has not been diluted or contains additives, sweeteners, or other juices. The brand we are using is the Genesis Goji100, because it is 100% goji juice with none of the above.
