Include this Food in Your Macular Degeneration Diet

Hello

Include this Food in Your Macular Degeneration Diet

Every week when I grocery shop I make sure to pick up one or two fresh, bright orange peppers. We chop up the orange peppers to put in our spinach salad, black bean salad or on a sandwich.

I was reminded about the importance of this colorful bell pepper when I came across the website of Dr. Michael Lange, a Board Certified Optometric Physician in Florida and a Certified Nutrition specialist.

He writes about nutritional intervention for macular degeneration and this is what he says about orange peppers,

”Eat more orange bell peppers (preferably organically grown), gently cooked or raw. Orange bell peppers are very high in Zeaxanthin.”

Zeaxanthin

Zeaxanthin is one of two pigments found in the macula. Along with lutein, these two antioxidants help support macular health by protecting the macula from the damaging affects of free radicals from ultraviolet and blue light.

Macular degeneration and macular health is very responsive to diet. Building the macular pigment with foods high in zeaxanthin is something you can do by eating the right foods.
